Geopolitically, it is not anything else more important  for Romania’s  foreign policy today  than what is going on in Ukraine. Some will say that it is more important to consider what is taking place on  the Western side of our territory, namely what Hungary under  Fidesz and  Victor Orban is doing; or the evolution of the European Union on the eve of the Brexit without deal already announced  and after;  others will say that Western Balkans is more important for the foreign policy of Romania due to the complexity of the security landscape;  or the evolution of Turkey on the international arena after the acquisition of S-400 from Russia and the US warnings connected with that fact which is at least an  inadequacy at the NATO level .
But in my opinion ,for us is most important security issue is  Ukraine- even, I should recognize,  it is very difficult to establish a hierarchy  in the field of security .  Here are three motives for what we are of such an opinion

One hour after the midnight between Friday and Saturday last week ( the event it referring to taking place on Thursday ,  August 8 , 2019 )  the Communications Department of Rosatom State Corporation of Russia issued that statement:
 
“ As a result of an accident at a military training ground in the Arkhangelsk region, five employees of the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom were killed while testing a liquid propulsion system. Three of our colleagues received injuries and burns of varying severity" ...the debate around nuclear arms race was relaunched

Not only that the withdrawal of USA ( August 2) and Russia ( August 3 ) from the INF Treaty of 1987  was considered  by majority of  experts as a significant event leading to the overthrow  of the arms control system at the global scale. But the comments  with that occasion of US Defense Secretary , Mark Ester, about the intention of his country to deploy such  weapons in  Indo-Pacific area  has created an uproar in that  large area. Primarily, China has been the loudest voice condemning such a development.

At a distance of several dozens minutes, US  State Secretary Mark Pompeo  retweeted  an important announcement of Jens Stoltenberg , NATO  Secretary General :

In May – June this year, the threat of war in the Persian Gulf has been increasingly   high. Under the pressure on the hawks of Trump administration the incidents has multiplied in the Gulf and not only, after the deployment of an American air carrier in the Gulf ( ‘Abraham Lincoln’  being sent in May ). The Iranian shoot-down an  American drone on June 20, and has brought the likelihood of war nearer. President Trump allegedly postponed an already ordered   military operation to strike several Iranian targets on June 20, and he boasted in a tweet that the number of Iranian  lives lost following it convinced him that it is  morally wrong such a reply to Theran.
